The New Year is here which always brings thoughts of reflection and change, both in our personal lives and careers. We may start thinking: is it time to travel, have a family, find a new job, create a challenge but we are all different! Some people blame the January blues or the spiritual cycle for feeling like this, which might be true.
At least for your next career move, there are many other and important reasons why this is the right time to look for a new job. According to LinkedIn data, more people change jobs in January compared to other months.
1. Reflection time
Christmas holidays usually provide time to reflect on our aspirations; the previous year and make plans for the next one. People tend to start the year by making resolution-inspired moves. You might think that your job does not provide you with the tools to reach your full potential, or more simply you want more money, or you are looking to do something different. Thus, a natural peak in recruitment to fulfil ambitions is created by people resigning and applying for new jobs.
Businesses and managers are making new year resolutions too. Decision makers are back in January rolling up their sleeves with new plans, projects and budgets; which include the headcount for the year ahead. As a result, there is movement in the recruitment market; opening up positions where there is demand.
3. Learning new skills
A new year often leaves people feeling they could, or should, be achieving more. Learning a new skill or piece of information can help you achieve anything that your heart desires, which is a major perk for your personal and professional lives. Once you’ve worked out what you want the ‘future you’ to look like, you’ll need to develop a plan of action for achieving your goal, which might include a course or a new job. If you see an opportunity, seize it.
4. If not now, then when?
It is all about what makes us feel content at the end of the day. If you are looking for a change in your career, then there is not a right time. The right time to follow your dreams and goals is now. RED10’s proposition is about honest and straightforward recruitment, which starts with being honest with yourself when change is needed.
